Problems exporting dxf file
Hello!
I have problems to export 3d objects to autocad. I´m traying to see 3D objects but, after export them and opening autocad 2007 I can not see 3D objects in this file.
Does anyone know what is going wrong?
Thank you so much!

Hello,
First problem is we do not see your screen capture because you have not uploaded any. Please read the IMPORTANT: Please read first before asking for help topic that is at the very top of this forum. At the end it explains how to attach images.
You cannot export 3D solid objects as DXF because the FreeCAD exporter does not support it. 3D solid data in DXF is saved as ACIS data, a proprietary kernel for which no open source translation library exists. As a consequence you can only export 2D geometry, or 3D mesh data by setting your Draft preferences.
FreeCAD can export solid models to open formats such as IGES and STEP. But I don't think Autocad supports those formats.

Re: Problems exporting dxf file
Guille,
Assuming you are on Windows since you use AutoCAD, I suggest you install the evaluation version of CAD Exchanger to convert STEP, IGES or Brep files to ACIS-SAT (*.sat), which is a file format AutoCAD can import. Be sure to choose ACIS v7.0 and no later, if the option is available, as AutoCAD won't be able to read newer versions.
And I suggest you export from FreeCAD as .brep, as this is the native format of FreeCAD's geometric modeling kernel.

Re: Problems exporting dxf file
So I see two options:
-To convert my solid into a 3D mesh format ( if it is possible) and them to export it as dfx
-To convert my solid into a igs file and open it with a program able to export it as a dfx u other autocad file format.
Does anyone any program that open igs file with export options that contain autocad file formats?
Thank you.

Re: Problems exporting dxf file
No, the conversion to mesh is done on the fly if you set the right option in Draft Preferences, as I told you.Guille wrote:-To convert my solid into a 3D mesh format ( if it is possible) and them to export it as dfx
And it's DXF, not DFX!
I already replied to that, you may not have read it.Guille wrote:Does anyone any program that open igs file with export options that contain autocad file formats?
Re: Problems exporting dxf file
Thank you, normandc
Now I have to see if Cad exchanger is available for Autocad 2007.

Re: Problems exporting dxf file
CAD Exchanger is a standalone program.

What are the limits of the evaluation version? I tried checking their website but it did not enlarge on what you could, could not do with the evaluation version.normandc wrote:I suggest you install the evaluation version of CAD Exchanger
Re: Problems exporting dxf file
There are no bigger limitations (except lack of CLI). I used it in past, and it was fully functional.keithsloan52 wrote: What are the limits of the evaluation version?
Re: Problems exporting dxf file
The limitation is that an installed version cannot be used endlessly. I use it very rarely but then I usually have to un-install that version and install the latest one. What are the limits of the evaluation version?
