Fasteners Workbench

Post by un1corn »

Hello all.
I switched on today and was unable to find the Fasteners Workbench after I updated the addons.
Also I could not find it in in the Addons manager list, after loading a previous project with fasteners the screws in the view had changed to box Icons
The fasteners workbench is shown in installed modes as is FCBOLTS but neither are visible in the workbench pulldown, so I cannot access them.
Included snip of workbench list.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks people

Which windows build do you use for v0.20dev? (conda or LP (libpack)? See https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD-Bund ... kly-builds)
Can you check your default freecad directory
in the FreeCAD python console type: FreeCAD.ConfigGet("UserAppData")
Then look in that directory on your filesystem. Inside there should be a Mod/ directory can you see if there are directories in there, specifcally Fasteners?

Also did you do anything different recently?

Thanks Kunda1 for responding.
I downloaded the Conda version of V0.20. as shown below.
I am currently back on V0.19.2 where everything is still working OK.
Apart from updating the workbenches from Addon manager no other changes made
I have deleted V0.20 temporarily and I will reload in a few weeks when my treatment finishes then I can think more clearly.
I will post the results when I re-load V0.20.
Thanks again for your input.

There is something dodgy/suspect going on after update/refresh, see also:
https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic. ... 28#p586015

common denominator seems to be

Code: Select all

Qt 5.12.9
I am using Link branch and Assembly3
you can also download ... and try it here
excellent Assembly3 tutorials here

Fwiw- I just upgraded my FC to this build, and I had to re-install Fasteners WB. It worked without a hitch.

Same here, the fasteners workbench was working on the release candidate of V0.20 (don't recall the build number), but is not visible in V0.20.29177.

The funny thing is
  • it is listed in the data from the about FreeCAD window (see below),
  • not showing up in the Workbench dropdown or the addon manager (so I also cannot uninstall/install/upgrade)
  • I also cannot see a Fastener subdirectory under C:\Program Files\FreeCAD 0.20\Mod
The new version is a joy to work with by the way, great improvements, thanks all!

Judging from the multiple occurrences of "0.12.0" in the version info I would say it is the result of this bug:
https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?t=68886
You should also get some warnings in the Report view if that is the case.

To solve this try the following (replace "username" with your username):
  1. Remove all addons that have the suspicious "0.12.0" version from: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\FreeCAD\Mod\
  2. Delete the related metadata folders from the Addon Manager cache folder: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\FreeCAD\Cache\AddonManager\PackageMetadata\
  3. Restart FreeCAD.
  4. Reinstall the missing addons.

I needed a M12 nut with pitch 1,25 mm.
I could not find a way to set custom pitch fur nuts.
Is it possible?

If not possible, I could use a FSThreadedRod and create a nut with Part/Booleand/Part_Cut. But if I do so, maybe the nut will become too tight. Should I use Diameter=Custom and Diameter Custom = 11,8?

Don't use the threaded rod, but rather the tap.

As for being too tight: If you buy the nut, it doesn't matter what you model anyway. If you print it, you have to experiment with the tolerances anyway. There are parameters to fiddle with in the preferences.

Indeed, I have printed a stud with a regular male M8 thread. After printing it could not be screwed in a M8 nut, so I had to finish it with a die.
So I suppose it greatly depends on the printer.
