Image to cnc path

Post by iplayfast »

I'm interested in using an image, to carve out a portrait. The darker parts would be deeper cuts with the CNC.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to go about this?

In Inkscape you can try to trace the image and save it as an SVG file and import that in Freecad.
If this does not work you can import the image in Freecad give it a Z=-1 mm and sketch it manually in sketcher

Litophane Workbench + 3D surface.
A Sketcher Lecture with in-depth information is available in English, auf Deutsch, en français, en español.

Litophane Workbench + 3D surface.
I think this is more what I had in mind. However I can't get the z height to be more than the default, (looks like 1 mm). I'd like to make it much more than that, so a nose actually is sticking out more than the forehead, and the forehead sticks out more then the eyes (for example).

Surface (what I assumed you meant by 3D surface) does not seem to be able to select the lithophane.

Could you elaborate a bit?
