ive spent all day watching youtube, and making super slow progress it has at least been progress, up until the past hour or so.

Ive figured out arrays, i know i cant use an array as a template for pocketing a pad, so i opted for shapebinder. buuut every time i try to do a Pocket with shapebinder as the template FreeCAD becomes unresponsive.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

It works here, but takes indeed veerrry long. I tried only one of the pockets and it took 10-15 minutes.

Although the patterns have been improved, you can try to do this in Part workbench, where it may be faster.

Code: Select all

OS: macOS 10.16
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.20.28774 (Git)
Build type: Release
Python 3.9.12, Qt 5.12.9, Coin 4.0.0, OCC 7.5.3
Locale: C/Default (C)

Part workbench is here indeed much faster. A full recompute is done here in 13 seconds. For the development I recommend to reduce in the arrays the number of the occurrences in X and Y directions. If it all works well you can set them finally to the desired values.

Excellent, chris.
Thank you very much.

I could get half of them to pocket, albeit in about 15-20 mins but the other half (the offset) took +40mins before i Alt+F4'd.

My concern was that it didnt appear to be doing anything. although i did note that CPU was ~25% Loaded and taskmanager showed power usage "very high" for FreeCAD Process. I was not aware of being able to pocket in "Part" Workbench, i will look into this!

I guess, that the 25% are part of the overall performance with multiple (=4?) kernels and that the FreeCDA process used 100% of a single one.
