Sorry to bother folks, I am new and the only way I know how to pad is to hit the pad button. However, with sketch002 selected and/or opened/closed (attached), I don't see a pad button. I also don't see any tasks listed for for the sketch. I don't see a pad option in any menu, I don'tsee anyone else on the internet with exactly this issue, and the help menu in my copy of FreeCAD is "FreeCAD help files not found".
I am hampered by my ignorance, and the walls are closing in
Many thanks, Paul

Re: I wonder how to pad this ..
Please have a look at tbe big red banner at thetop and provide your FreeCAD information: https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2264
And yes, a screenshot would be very helpful. I guess you're in the wrong workbench.

Thanks all, I was an idiot, somehow I was still in 'Sketcher', I did not have 'Part Design' selected.
OK I have now read the red banner stuff, I should have provided a screenshot, sorry about that. My version is 0.19.
Thanks again and best regards, Paul.

Great that it works now! You're welcome to add a "[Solved]" at the beginning of the thread title to mark this thread as solved.
For the next time: The main version isn't enough. There's a special way to provide your FreeCAD data described here: https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2264. It should look like this for example:
