New install of FreeCAD on Pop!OS (Ubuntu derivitive) Techdraw Vertices missing

Post by BDL42 »

I taught myself FreeCAD just this year, and have been able to do some productive designs. Thanks for creating such a nice tool! Recently changed my linux distribution from Ubuntu 20.04 to Pop!OS 22.04, and have reinstalled FreeCAD on my laptop.

OS: Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS (pop:GNOME/pop)
Word size of OS: 64-bit
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.19.
Build type: Release
Python version: 3.10.2
Qt version: 5.15.2
Coin version: 4.0.0
OCC version: 7.5.1
Locale: English/United States (en_US)

The issue is vertices are no longer visible in TechDraw. They used to be visible on 20.04 Ubuntu. I had saved all my settings in .FreeCAD and .FreeCAD-temp. All of my old macros were preserved. If I run FreeCAD on Raspberry Pi OS 64 bit, I see vertices in my TechDraw drawing.

Can't dimension anything in TechDraw right now on Pop!OS, which, of course, reduces it's utility. I'm hoping it is some obscure setting of some sort. Under Preferences > Annotation I have Show Center Marks checked. Under TechDraw>Scale Vertex Scale = 3.00, Center Mark Scale = 0.50, which are the same as in RPI64 bit, which does show the vertices. Even if I delete the view and reimport the view, the vertices don't show up.

Part Design > Shape appearance Vertex size = 2 px.

I would be most grateful to be able to use TechDraw again. I use it to create drawings so I can machine parts in my shop. Hoping it is not unique to my drawing, but it is attached here. It is a model of a slotted square tube, which I will turn into a lathe tool rack.

Please retry with 0.20 and the AppImage.

0.20 AppImage seems to work. The vertices show up again, with the same file.
0.19 did work on Ubuntu 20.04, and Raspberry Pi OS (64bit) without a problem. Wonder why it doesn't work on 0.19 on 22.04?

Can 0.20 AppImage run on an RPI4? I want to have the option to run on both platforms. Not that I want to be able to do designs on RPI4, but at least to view my designs. Recently went though laptop crashes and having an RPI4-8GB helped me get through the disaster unscathed.

How can I re-import my macros and some of my settings for use by the AppImage? Never used an AppImage before, so it is a new concept to me.

Oh, I wasn't expecting a crash using an AppImage! I was trying to enable the Add On Manager and got a SIGSEGV.

More specifically, I selected the AddOn Manager, and checked the two boxes and clicked ok. Then the SIGSEGV happened. Guess I shouldn't do that!
Have used the AppImage again with no harm.

If the cross hairs are enabled for a hole, is there a way to turn them off? I only see a way to turn them on. Clicking again does not turn them off.

Clicking help shouldn't cause a seg fault either... When I did that, it crashed. As a brand new user to this AppImage, this is not impressive.
