something wrong with LOFT options Solid/Ruled/Closed ?!?!

Post by maggus »

Hi,

I just wander if the results of my simple (but stupid) LOFT example are what the devs expect.
If yes, then I misunderstand some of the options,
if no, then there is a bug.

Please refer attached files and screenshots ... it´s all about combinations of Solid/Ruled/Closed.

Code: Select all

OS: Windows 7
Word size: 64-bit
Version: 0.14.3700 (Git)
Branch: releases/FreeCAD-0-14
Hash: 32f5aae0a64333ec8d5d160dbc46e690510c8fe1
Python version: 2.7.6
Qt version: 4.8.5
Coin version: 4.0.0a
SoQt version: 1.6.0a
OCC version: 6.6.0
best regards
Markus

Hi Markus

the solid and ruled seem to be working OK, but the closed seems to be buggy for me

OS: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
Word size: 64-bit
Version: 0.15.3742 (Git)
Branch: master
Hash: c6af002ab5e828145d6637ff86d6e53fa15ec6f7
Python version: 2.7.6
Qt version: 4.8.6
Coin version: 4.0.0a
SoQt version: 1.6.0a
OCC version: 6.7.0

in the example you have created "closed" is not a valid option....but its failure should be more gracefully handled, perhaps an informative error message.

I'll post back here in a minute or two.....

Here is a quick demo of what closed is supposed to do. Closed makes the loft go from the last to the first profile. This would not be valid in your example, but in my example the profiles a place such that their centres are on a circular path not a straight lineal path.

the large circle in the above example is just to show the circular path through the centres of the profiles. it serves no purpose in the Loft itself.

Please do not zip images. We need to download and to extract on our desktop and frankly it's a hassle.

The "Important: please read first" topic explains which image formats are allowed. It's much more useful to display them in the topic like Jim did.

Hi Norm
Generally I would agree with that, :) , however a zip does have the advantage that the images do not have to be downloaded or viewed just to read the post....his zip has 8 pictures so he was possibly making his post display easier for those that don't end up needing to view it....

Hi,
that´s exactly the way I started the post ... but then I hit the "max 5 attachements" border.
O.K. .... thinking about it ..... could have spread the initial post by immediately creating a second one with the remaining images
Will try to remember when it happens again

Hi,

thanx for the explanation .... that exactly helps me to understand the difference between "solid" and "closed".
I assumed "closed" could mean that the resulting object will be closed regarding that you can only see the outside faces ... but that´s the solid feature.

--> problem solved <--
