Issue #7563 - FC Freezes/Locks after initiating Full Screen (View → Click Fullscreen)

Post by Palmtree »

Start FC => New document => View →  Click Fullscreen (Image 1) ==> Most functions (including 7 sub-menus in the standard menu + Work benches pull down menu) are frozen/ locked (no response) :o :o :o

Assume I am a newbie (not sure how to go back) →
To end task (WIN 10) → Ctrl+Alt+ Del → to activate Task Manager screen → no Task Manager Screen
Alt+Tab to flick opened windows to pick-up the Task Manager screen → Task Manager screen disappear quickly and strangely

Click Alt+F11 → all good and back to full control

Is this NORMAL and designed to be like this? Please confirm :?

One more Question:
How to send notification on the forum? :?: :?: :?:

Observations:
  • UI doesn't show how to disable Full screen mode (as OP wrote, the answer is ALT+F11)
  • in full screen mode I successfully activated workbench dropdown (contrary to OPs observations)
  • Pressing ALT key or scrolling up to the top of the screen doesn't trigger file menu dropdown. No way to access filemenu (AFAICT) in Full screen mode. User must google to find out the key combo)

I confirm the issue. All dropdowns are blocked somehow. Apart from the menus and the workbench selector, the toolbar flyouts don't work either.

there are no such problems here, could it have something to do with an addon?

None of the issues reported by the OP occur using:

Code: Select all

OS: Linux Mint 20.3 (X-Cinnamon/cinnamon)
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.21.30468 (Git)
Build type: Release
Branch: master
Hash: cbc5cf8ee08415c411709699299d22440c07199f
Python 3.8.10, Qt 5.12.8, Coin 4.0.0, Vtk 7.1.1, OCC 7.3.0
Locale: English/United Kingdom (en_GB)
Installed mods:
  * A2plus 0.4.59
  * Curves 0.5.8
  * ExtremeProDark 1.0.4
  * Plot 2022.4.17
  * fasteners 0.4.6
  * sheetmetal 0.2.57

I'd take an educated guess this is a packaging issue with a target of the version of Qt.

Hello, This happens to me when running freecad the operating system uses the intel graphics card instead of the dedicated graphics card Nvidia.

To change this you have to set freecad in the Graphic performance preference of the Windows settings

This solves the problem in my side.

This configuration can also be set from the control panel of the Nvidia card, if you also have Nvidia and are interested I could show you how, but the result is the same.

@heron, I am sorry for the late response and thank you for your input, I have attached your list of steps from the Spanish forum (nice/short):

Settings \ System \ Display \ Graphics settings \ Graphics performance preferences \ Choose an application to set the preference \ Browse \ Search for freecad, if it doesn't come up search for freecad.exe \ Add. Once you have it added, click on Options and choose High performance and Save, so when you run freecad it pulls the GPU.

I follow your recommended setting (also I have restarted Window, after the new setting, Image 1) Unfortunately it did NOT work NO LUCK :D :D :D
