Create a loft through a union

Post by nicokid »

Hi forum,

I have to create a hole through a union. I thought of using the part design loft tool and two sketch mapped on union faces (start_hole and end_hole).
The problem is that it is not possible to select the union as the active body and so I cannot use the loft tool
I have attached my drawing.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

Nicola.

You should not mix Part and PartDesign if it is not necessary. This can be done completely either in Part or in PartDesign, whatever suits you better.

the operations are not in the correct order,
and the merge does not use the correct objects
you have to make a new Body and drag the fusion and the 2 sketches in it, you have to make a new sketch for the path and make a subtractivPipe
check the diameters, in my opinion you made a mistake in the one on the flange side, if the 2 are equal (as I did) one is enough

[Soved] Create a loft through a union

Post by nicokid »

Hi,
I followed chrisb's suggestion and did everything with part design. Took me a while but something came out :D Thanks.
I've always had a lot of confusion with part and part design. I have read the explanation in Part and PartDesign. Now it's a little clearer. Thanks Bance.
Unfortunately I hadn't seen papyblaise's message with the solution already done   But thank you anyway :D

This is my solution.

Even if someone here has provided a model, it is a good idea to do it yourself. And perhaps not only once but several times, possibly with different flavours, until each of the flavours goes fluently. And then you can decide which path is best for you.

Your model still shows that you still work like being in Part workbench. The booleans in PartDesign are rarely used, because they are rarely necessary and make a model more difficult to understand.
In your case you should add both features, i.e. the pipe and the subtractive cube, from the boolean directly at that place in the tree.

I removed the boolean right before your post :D
Thank you.
