I'm using FreeCAD 0.20.2 rev 29177 +426 64-bit on Windows 10.
With the attached file, with the draft workbench active, I activate the split tool and click on the line shown in the attached screenshot (Line008) to split the line at the clicked point. When I do this, I get an error in the report view, "Error wiring edges". I also tried selecting the line first, then clicking the split tool, then clicking the line and I get the same result.
Note that other lines in the same file work but this one does not.
I also tested this in the latest development version, 0.21.0 rev 31391, and I see the same thing there.

Re: trying to split a line reports, "Error wiring edges"
Somehow the start and end of that line are the same point. Change the Y coordinate of End to -9000 and change Closed to false.

Turns out there were two lines on top of each other.

True, but not the cause here.

Maybe, but, he and I went round a few times in another online media and when he found the double line it worked. But, he could have changed things after posting here...

Thanks to @drmacro for helping in chat! Tried to reply earlier but the forum wouldn't let me.
As was said, it ended up being 2 lines on top of each other that it didn't like. I'm not really a former AutoCAD user unless you count a course as a freshman in college many years ago I'm new to it and just trying to learn it to be able to create floor plans for remodeling.
