Newbie question on installing pyCollada

Postby MAP » Fri Feb 06, 2015 11:18 am

G'Day everyone,

I hope you don't mind my newbie question, I am new to FreeCad and cad in general and am trying to teach myself the basics. Would anyone be willing to walk me through installing pyCollada in my MAC OSX version of FreeCad?

I would like to work with files that can be transferred between FreeCad and Sketchup Pro.

Looking forward to any assistance I may receive from the community, Cheers, MAP

Hey rockn, thanks mate. I have read this already, but I don't really understand where and how you apply the commands, also where the resource comes from?

Trying to figure it out, cheers, MAP

You could find interesting informations about Terminal here : http://www.maclife.com/article/feature/ ... hould_know
First link in google, again I don't know Mac so perhaps it's obsolete.

If you have problem, be patient i'm sure someone who know Mac (like peterl94) can explain this better than mine.

Thanks rockn I got it installed via terminal, but when I try to export a file to DAE I get red text under the FreeCad window, stating the following, please see image:

Any ideas? Cheers MAP

Also would probably be best to turn on "report view' and go into the preferences and tick the two "redirect out to report view" options.

Hi all
I have problem with Collada instalation on WIN. It looks that all is installed correctly but DAE import do not work.
Freecad reply: " pycollada not found".

OS: Windows Vista
Word size of OS: 32-bit
Word size of FreeCAD: 32-bit
Version: 0.15.4669 (Git)
Branch: releases/FreeCAD-0-15
Hash: d8bbbc1d1d111bd600025b2ba83f41b7353e3790
Python version: 2.7.8
Qt version: 4.8.6
Coin version: 4.0.0a
OCC version: 6.8.0.oce-0.17

I installed:
FreeCAD-0.15.4669_x86_RC2_setup.exe
python-2.7.8.msi (ticked "set path" during install)
numpy-1.9.2-win32-superpack-python2.7.exe
setuptools-15.0
pycollada-0.4.1

Where could be problem?
Thanks,
Pavel

Hi Pavel,

FreeCAD uses its own python, and so it will not be able to find any libraries you install elsewhere. However, you should be able to copy pycollada-0.4.1-py2.7.egg from C:\Python27\Lib\site-packages to C:\Program Files\FreeCAD 0.15\bin\Lib\site-packages.

The python bundled with FreeCAD actually has setuptools, but the release candidate installers are missing python.exe. The 0.15 release installers will include it so that you won't need another python install to install python libraries for FreeCAD.

Installing pycollada on OS X should be pretty easy. First, install pip:
To install pip, securely download get-pip.py.

Then run the following (which may require administrator access):

python get-pip.py
and in Terminal enter:
pip install --target="/Applications/FreeCAD.app/Contents/lib/python2.7/site-packages" pycollada

I have not tried this myself! There might be a conflict with numpy.
