Yes, the notes are saved as you write...

In my case, it is not saved. If I close and open the file all texts are gone. The same if I close and open the start page.

Hmm can someone else who uses windows confirm this?
Another thing to check: Can you check that your FreeCAD data folder (the one you get by entering FreeCAD.ConfigGet("UserAppData") in the FreeCAD python console) contains a "webdata" subfolder with a storage file in it?

I can confirm that the Notes are not saved on my Windows 7 PC and that there is no Webdata subfolder of C:\Users\John\AppData\Roaming\FreeCAD

As @Syres just confirmed. In my case, there is no webdata subfolder, either.

Is this webdata folder supposed to be installed with FreeCAD 0.17?
I have both versions in my laptop. 0.17 with installer and 0.18 just running with click on FreeCAD file in bin folder.
This is my screeshot: (maybe antivirus deletes this folder?)

In passing I managed to hop on a family member's Windows 10 64bit Home Edition PC with FreeCAD 018 14495 (sorry didn't managed to have time to get full info, naughty corner for me) and the Start Page Notes isn't saving on that either with no sign of a Webdata folder in the User's Roaming area.

@bitacovir, I believe it's only on the recent 018 builds that the Webdata folder is created but I'm happy to be corrected.

BTW, wouldn't it be more clear for user to name it as "My notes" instead of "Notes"?

The hint how to configure the custom folder reads You can configure a custom folder to display here in menu Edit -> Preferences -> Start -> Custom folder
while the label in preferences says Show additional folder instead of Custom.

Would it be possible to pin some files of the recent file list? For my use cases that would fit better than a custom folder.
