Re: FreeCAD Logo Design
Damn, I also really like this one While we had quite a few suggestions over the time, some better some worse, the real problem was that the original logo has a really strong recognition. This logo keeps a lot of that in a really nice new style. Hopefully it is meant to be shared under a commonly usable license?

Re: FreeCAD Logo Design
Indeed, I like it a lot as well. The only feedback I'd offer is to suggest to make the gear in the C larger and maybe further to the right--for example, in your avatar or in smaller icon sizes it would be harder to tell what it is.

I really liked this last one too! And IMHO your choice of colors is the key that, although the logo is completely different, makes it instantly regognizable by who is a long-time user of FreeCAD.

Re: FreeCAD Logo Design
In logo design as in symbol design it is common to simplify things, the wheelchair symbol that marks for disability also does not really look like a real wheelchair doesn't it? Also, this is not a technical drawing and so Ol, as the author - designer of the logo, should have some artistic freedom to decide how it should look, it is his/her design.

Re: FreeCAD Logo Design
To keep it as simple as possible. That way the logo stays relatively clean in all possible sizes.
Re: FreeCAD Logo Design
The large size looks fine, but I do not think it scales down very well. The 24 px, and especially the 16 px icons are essentially unrecognizable blobs. I am by no means a graphic designer, but I would guess that the lack of clear spatial features, i.e. the basic shape is a cube, means that there is little definition left at small sizes.
The current logo and many of the proposals earlier in this thread have better shape definition and scale down a lot better.
Not saying to throw this one out; just that it needs a bit of adjustment to scale better.
