… another idea, maybe a little bit too complicated.

Icon themes out there adding support for FreeCAD. That for sure is an improvement. It comes down to FreeCAD end users requesting such support. Not that long ago icon packs more or less didn't provide the FreeCAD icon.

@hammax

Always nice to see such artwork. I can see you invested effort in it. To realize your vision.

My idea, based on the idea of shadows. I like the strong colors of FreeCAD logo. But always I found the characters were unbalanced but at the same time so rigid. So I just freely draw the shapes and put them in a random position. Also, I used the freecad tango palete for colors.

If nothing else the artwork itself looks tasteful. ;)

I like the font in the middle, it seems to be a machining-friendly font.

Hi,

I really don't know how much impact this "contest" has but, I couldn't resist to try some new ideas out. I think the current logo feels "old school" and I think it may be updated, so... here are my entries:

1 - 3D logos

IMHO they are too complicated for a real (and modern) logo so I moved to a simpler 2D concept:

2 - 2D logos

If you ask me my vote would go for the right one of the 2D logos, it's the more equilibrated one, plays both with lines and arcs which helps introducing contrast between the "Free" and "CAD" and has de most complex composition while keeping the equilibrium:

Colors has also been precisely chosen: starting with pure Red and Blue colors and moving to some softer ones. In case any of them get somehow chosen we can go more in deep in this subject ;)

Cheers

EDIT: If you want to play with them I have attached the original svg files in this post :)

I like the second of the 3D logos. It shows at a very basic level the 3D modeling capabilities.
