But the PPA is only for Ubuntu, Linux Mint and derivatives. It is not compatible with all the other distros.

Krita's download page sure looks nice, it seems to detect the visitor's OS - something that may not be easy to achieve with a static website like FreeCAD's.

From the FreeCAD infos we see here it seems that a majority of Linux users is on Ubuntu or a derivate. Can we serve them with an extra button?

The number of ways to install software on linux is surprising; there is snap, flatpak, appimage, ppa and package repository, plus the instructions for different linux distros can vary too. The downloads page needs to accommodate all the extra information. I am inclined to go the way krita does it, but I guess a working prototype is needed first for testing.

I am not really satisfied with the way the homepage appears on mobile devices, I think there is room for improvement, so for the past few days, I was experimenting with a slightly different layout. Here's an early screenshot:

I modified the downloads page at https://sharazali.github.io/FreeCAD-Hom ... loads.html to include instructions for more platforms (ubuntu, fedora and more) with information from the FreeCAD wiki, flathub.org, snapcraft.io. Any feedback is welcome.

I visited the snap store at https://snapcraft.io/freecad and noticed that the developer website link points to freecad.org and not freecadweb.org, perhaps a typo?

BTW I cannot find it anymore for FC 0.17 at GH releases repo

Let me dig a little bit more futher, to enhance all of that. I made that build because I received request from end users to get it initially done.

Yep, this is what i was afraid of. Currently an average person has 3 sensible options to select from, one for each platform. Now there are 9 options to select from and much more text added. An average person likely will struggle. In addition there is the Conda option, to install and use FreeCAD on all 3 platforms, and it currently isn't mentioned. ;)

Perhaps it would be good to have an "above the fold" section with OS icons and labels, which one could click to jump to the point in the page describing ways to get FreeCAD on that OS. That would also allow the text to be widened/use more space and breathe a little.

I am not familiar with the Conda Py3/Qt5 package, I checked the wiki page at https://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/Install_on_Windows but there isn't any info on it, perhaps you can share a link to it that I can include.

There were a couple more options in the wiki, but I didn't include it ;) . The information is indeed quite a lot and I can see that it would not be a good experience for newcomers. Maybe the information can be condensed further or perhaps its best to leave all that info in the wiki and provide a link to it.

I realized that having three columns was not a good idea, there wasn't enough space for the text. So I reduced it down to two, maybe now it is a little better. As for having separate links above, I will test such a layout.
