FreeCAD interface customization.

Post by OficineRobotica »

This post is intended as a one liner response to people that ask how to set up FC's interface like this but most of all it is intended as a:
HUGE thank you to all the FreeCAD developers and a particular THANK YOU to @realthunder that is pushing and inching close to perfection with the new overlay interface New overlay mode (Now ready for testing)

To anyone that gets redirected to this post:

Want to help #FreeCAD evolve but don't know how to code?
1. Report bugs
2. Help with documentation
3. Help us translate (FC and wiki)
4. Document your learning curve & present it to us
5. Teach someone how to use it
6. Present findings to your community
7. Consider donating to the FreeCAD project

These videos explain how to use this functionality with the 0.19 master branch and the LinkStage3 branch.

If you use Freecad 0.19 master:

P.S. My personal opinion is that people simply can't wait to see the LinkStage3 overlay interface in FC master. By testing and reporting your findings in the announcement post were inching closer to that https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic. ... &start=120

Thank you and best regards.

I registered to the Freecad forum to ask for help when @triplus launched the glass add-on so you understand that I made FC's interface my passion lol. Thank you.

Is this UI actually available with 0.19 daily or the realthunder branch?

I'm sure I've missed it, but, I can't find any reference on how to actually try it...

The glass add-on id's available in 0.19 master [the first video]

LinkStage3 is more complete as overlay ui but itty needs ...realthunder 's branch [the second video]

Cheers

How feasible would it be to have a 1-click setting that jumps over all the steps you lay out in the LinkStage3 customization video to enable overlay and shadowing etc... all the nice realthunder goodies?

Ok, I completely missed that the videos included instructions, I thought they were examples of how people used it so never thought to watch.

English is not my main language so I might not see it but do you think that I should change the wording of the post to better reflect the fact that these are tutorials?

Well, your English is way better than my <insert language here>. Any language that I had any fluency with is long since forgotten...other than swear words.

To make it very clear you could change this:

"If you use Freecad 0.19 master:"

to:

"These two videos explain how to use this functionality with the 0.19 master branch and the LinkStage3 branch.

If you use Freecad 0.19 master:"
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan: Spock: "...His pattern indicates two-dimensional thinking."
