Icons for User Edit Mode

Post by openBrain »

Coming from :
bitacovir wrote: Sat Sep 04, 2021 7:14 pm Can you open a request in the UIUX forum, please? I am a bit busy these months, so I am working slow but happy to help. Just write the info about what icons you need.
Here you are.
The context is to get a set of icons for newly introduced Std_UserEditMode.

Obviously the first requirement is that each icon shall denote its own "name/function", respectively :
* Default
* Transform
* Cutting
* Color

As a common requirement, they should also denote they are link to the feature "editing", so probably using some kind of pencil as a universal symbol could be right, as in Std_Edit.

Finally ideally, icons should commonly denote that they represent an "action mode", in the sense that no action is performed directly by selecting one or the other mode, but it influences how the software will behave.

You can eventually have a look at the temporary icons I used (they are copied from existing FC resources), which IMO are not so bad, but definitely not so good. :)

I pinged @bitacovir because he asked for a topic, but anybody that want to participate is welcome. ;)

If I'm totally honest, I'm not fully satisfied with the 'd' representing 'default'. I'd like something more graphic/visual. ;)
However you have to consider :
* I'm totally idiot regarding UI/icons design
* This is already far better that what I used to submit the PR

So please continue in this direction to provide the full set, it's definitely good work. :)

If It can be of some help i did a small search, and many times a default value is presented with a grey check in the background of the icon...

I am not fan of letters in icons, but I don't find a symbol to represent the "Default" term. :)

What about this one:

How about a gray check mark?

Anyway, maybe it would be good to make the 3 other icons, and eventually it will give some idea about this one. :)

perhaps it could also be useful to think about what the default is:
Default: the object will be edited with its default mode. The edit mode is defined internally to be the most appropriate according the object type
so maybe also a grayed part feature icon (as a representation for an undefined object) could be the case?
