BUG: freecad:editable text not working in template or wiki example

Post by trilbytim »

I followed the steps in this wiki to create my own custom templatehttps://wiki.freecadweb.org/Drawing_Template_HowTo to create this template:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BAdVU3 ... sp=sharing
However, when I open this in FreeCAD, the green clickable links for the editable text fields appear off the top of the page as you can see here:

This is useable like this, as you can see, clicking on the top most green blob does open a dialog window that allows me to change the part number, but it's not very helpful.
The wiki provides an example template https://wiki.freecadweb.org/File:TemplateExample.svg so I had a look at that to see if I was doing anything wrong. However the example template doesn't work at all for the editable text!! There are no green blobs at all, on or off the page, so no way to edit any text fields within FreeCAD.

You can't state [BUG] on a thread title when you're not even using the correct instructions, Drawing and Techdraw aren't the same thing, it even states that Drawing is obsolete on the top of the page you linked to. The correct Template creation instructions for Techdraw are located at : https://wiki.freecadweb.org/TechDraw_TemplateHowTo

I've not tested them step by step but they appear to be what you should try first. Also there are working Templates supplied with FreeCAD such as A4_Portrait_ISO7200TD.svg to copy and review/modify a line at a time to see how they are changing. Most custom templates are not usually more than 200 lines deep unless they have a ridiculous number of fields.
