Mirror of Sketch not Shown

Post by paullee »

Hi, I use Arch Section Plane to include arch object as well as sketch. In TechDraw Arch View is used, so far so good.

Then, it was noted mirrors of sketch, though included in the Arch Section Plane etc.

Bug or anything I miss?

Thanks!

I think that's because the mirror sketch is considered to be inside the folder of the originial sketch. Not sure why it does that
Normally the arch section can also read folders but in this case not sure.

Hmm...further test the behaviour.

- Leaving only the Mirror Object in ArchSectionPlane (i.e. take out the Original Sketch) - Nothing now
- Put the Original Sketch in a Folder within the folder ArchSectionPlane include - The Original is shown in TechDraw/ArchView
- Put directly the Mirror object in ArchSectionPlane (rather than including the folder) - Still Nothing

Conclusion ?:-
> ArchSectionPlane + TechDraw/ArchView - would traverse all sub-folders
> Only Mirror of Sketch is Ignored
- (ignore either by ArchSectionPlane OR TechDraw/ArchView)

[EDIT] It should be a bug (or feature not implemented?). - https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic. ... 1&t=25951

Oh i'm surely certain of that
What happens if you copy the mirror
and or what if you exploded the mirror,
or tweaked it in a way that made it loose its connection to the parent object?

Interesting... try downgrade the Mirror, still not useful

thats interesting
it seems you need to do a bit of dancing around
but by using this https://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/Draft_Draft2Sketch
and converting the mirror to sketch, it does work
and reconverting that same sketch back to dwire does explode/downgrades it and thus when you put that in the section it does read tech draw
quite an unecessary gymnastic indeed, but i guess this is what works for now. :D :D :D

Yes, you are correct - DraftToSketch do convert the Mirror to Sketch and can be included in ArchSectionPlane+TechDraw/ArchView. So do Shape2Dview.

Problem is it is no longer parametric.

BTW, just note there is a discussion on sketcher and remind that sketch is not intended originally for 2D drafting...https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=25951 that may be why - a 'feature' not implemented rather than a bug :)

Yes indeed it doesn't occur to me to naturally draft with sketcher as it if was a 2D. So that means the draft is the only thing we have left. except very little parametric props but should have the mirror work. Besides testing, is there something you wish to acheive? I generally wonder about something and and wonder if it is achievable in freecad and test the different roads currently possible. This is why a clever combination of these tools is usually what i'm on the hunt for.

I haven't tested if Mirror of Draft Wire work in ArchSectionPlane+TechDraw/ArchView.

I am testing if and how a Sketch could possibly be used as a very sketchy architectural layout (only single line rather than double line for a wall e.g.). Then built all the walls, different types, on different sketches... than change the 3d model by changing these sketches... etc. etc. etc.

Take a long time for this experiment and a lot of 'bugs' and 'un-implemented features' found... lots of question posted in the forum.. and yes need a combination of tools to kind of 'workaround'.

In fact, it seems very now and then a user post a question on building ArchWall upon sketch, then those users seem disappear from the forum... haven't seen a proper workflow based on sketch posted by anybody, not a good sign.

Actually I have a good idear where sketches can be used. for example site layouts and street curbs. but I got so much i'm checking and attempting to do that it is hard to focus and hash out a few of these things consistently. Also for sketches are only good when one wishes to swap wall styles. as the sketch can save the wall style. So that means a combination of sketch styles is also an interesting direction.
