Feature Request: Threads

Post by reox »

I think this is closely related to the development of the PDN feauture "holes" but also to other feature which are currently not developed, like outer threads on cylinders.
It would be really nice, if you could draw threads, like outer and inner threads. For holes, this might already be possible, as the information is stored with the feature. As the core drill hole is modeled, you would just need to draw over it the thread, like a 3/4 circle for the top view and the thread plus the end of the thread for the side view.

Here are a few things when modeling threads. There is a norm for that: DIN ISO 6410-1. The German wikipedia has some information about that: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gewinde#Darstellung
I annotated that as a reference:

May I suggest you create a feature request on the bug tracker, and link to this topic.

It's not the only one, and more would have to be added like ANSI.

okay, would be nice to have the information about them too.

I just created a ticket: https://www.freecadweb.org/tracker/view.php?id=3369

Great, thanks. Can't hunt for more info on other norms at the moment, hope to do it at some point.

Hi all,

according to the background that there is no working feature for the presentation of threads, I 've tried to construct a thread on the actual basis of FC 0.17:

Here are my results:

... unfortunately the performance of FC 0.17 shows the following problems:

... another approach was following the manufacturing of a thread in a tapped blind hole. In other words:

1. drill core bore
2. cut thread

see my results:

In "Target" have you tried showing smooth, seam or hidden lines?

Yes I did try to change that, but it doesn't work or I 've misunderstood your hint.

Enclosed please find my file for better understanding ...
