can not determine correct page

Post by Seandroid »

Hi All,

This is my first post so my apologies if i get something wrong, or have posted in the wrong place.

I have a problem when inserting an section plane view into an active page (with multiple pages in the one freecad file) it comes up with an error "Can not determine correct page" see attached screen shot.

It doesn't matter what page is active it wont insert any section plane views.

I use to open the file up with FreeCAD-0-16 and insert the view and go back to 17 and continue on with my drawing but now 16 wont show the any pages or show the techdraw workbench - probably not the best way to work - but it worked for a little while.

I have tried to go back to a previous version of my freecad file when it had no Arch views and pages - using my current version FreeCAD-0-17 i added a section plane and page and inserted it into a page - No Problem. then i tried a second section plane and tried to insert view into seccond page and NO GO. it doesn't like it.

Ive tried with report and python console open but there is nothing coming through there

Ive also tried uninstalling every version of freecad and starting fresh but still get the same error.

Not sure where to go now, any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated

If more info needed please let me know

A BIG thank you to all those contributing to such an awesome piece of software :D

As @Jee-Bee stated, v016 doesn't have a TechDraw workbench - it was only introduced as part of v017 - so v016 can not display TechDraw pages or even save them with the rest of the document.

I tried to look at your file with v016 and v017, neither version is happy with it. Do you have an earlier file that hasn't been touched by both v016 and v017?

Thanks for the reply @Jee-Bee - i understand that now.

Thanks you reply and for having a look at my file @wandererfan

The more i think about it. i started learning with freecad 16, then got curious as to the new developments in freecad 17 so downloaded that and started using 17 for most of my modeling ( most of my modeling - this is the first house ive ever modeled), but when i saw they had added support to show door and window openings, in section view on a page, in a latter development version of 17, i downloaded that and sorted out the door openings - but that version i couldn't add the arch section view to a second page so i ended up going back to the earlier version to insert the section view into another page.
Im sorry i didn't give more attention to the versions or revision number - i can see how this would help find the problem.

I had a look and found a version i think i only opened with a development version of 17 it has no pages on it so i think itwould be ok to test with it.

ive also added all my files that i have saved in stages to a google drive folder and ill share the link

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing

I think i will try a fresh document and see if i get the same error

Thanks again for all your help :D

Thought id try a new file to see if i have the same problem

yep have got the same problem

Started new file
Made new wire and turned it into a wall fitted a door
inserted a section plane - made a page and inserted the section view in to page
made second section plane - made second page and tried to insert second section plane view into second page
ERROR = Can not determine correct page

Here is the new file i created
Test File.FCStd

Does anyone else get this error when they have more than one page in there freecad file?
or is it only happening to my installation?

Is this the same issue? https://www.forum.freecadweb.org/viewto ... =3&t=28227

It sounds like it to me and a fix was merged to master on the weekend.

Confirmed. In latest version (0.17.13519 for Windows and linux too) this bug almost fixed. If you see this message - double click on desired page in model tree and then you can add view to tech draw. Message "can not determine correct page" will appear, but view will be created.

I can't make this happen. Can you give me step by step instructions, please?

Downloaded FreeCAD_0.18.13617_x64_dev_win from https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/rele ... g/0.18_pre

loaded the test file posted earlier
added arch view to Page
As @MikeQ said - freecad said it couldn't determine the correct page but it still added the view to the page
