0.19.18644 – Section Cut ignores Direction & Normal

Post by basmati »

OS: macOS Mojave (10.14)
Word size of OS: 64-bit
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.19.18644 (Git)
Build type: Release
Branch: master
Hash: 481870be2b48ef95b59acf1440b069d42b6fad23
Python version: 3.7.3
Qt version: 5.12.5
Coin version: 4.0.0a
OCC version: 7.3.0
Locale: German/Germany (de_DE)
I'm trying to crate a section parallel to a face (see images).
For that, I create a view that is perpendicular to the face I want to cut parallel to.

But the resulting cut doesn't seem to behave like I would have expected (and like it did in the latest 0.19 release for Mac).

Besides the fact that it is upside down (doesn't matter, there surely is a reason for that), the section is NOT parallel to the face and it is NOT normal to the preset normal.

And when I change this normal (or the perspective), the section doesn't change.

Also, the section and it's origin don't seem to be right.
The part is 920mm high. The first corner (where the face that I want my cut to be parallel to) starts at a hight of 360mm. Shouldn't my section be "empty" if I set an origin of 20,20,360?

Am I missing something here?

See this answer.

Sections made in the GUI are always at a right angle to the Source View - left/right/up/down.

I'm not sure it will make a section view parallel to a starting face, but it might be a good feature to add. Can I have your file to play with please?

I already saw the answer you linked to and I think I understand the direction of the section

I attached a file to play with.

To be precise, I have two problems here:

1. I create a view that is perpendicular to the plane I want the section to be in.
The plane I want is approx. 0, -0.99, 0.10
The view I create is 0, 0.10, 0.99 (I used the Align_View_To_Face Macro).
Thereby, my section should be parallel to the plane. But it is not I think. I can not create a section that shows the cutout in the upper part of the body.
The section should be more or less the same as the "Mitte_Pfosten" datum plane.

2. When I change the section'sNormal Plane, nothing happens.
I think that was possible with 0.19.18589
I had a file where the section was correct but I had to delete the section because 18644 would crash when I wanted to redraw that page.

Other observations I made:
The Section Origin doesn*t behave as I would expect it to (I can't seem to understand it fully. Sometimes when I set the origin e.g. to the center of a hole I want to view, the hole stays invisible.
The Edit Section View Task window cuts the Section Origin fields (see attached picture)

Thank you!
