Your statement "a file selection dialog that changed directories without user input" is a good way to describe what I seem to be seeing. I already created my own directory per your suggestion. It works but is rather strange because the file selection dialog keeps changing.

I saw your Known OS specific issues but it did not dawn on me that it applied to this situation. Could you please explain how to use your workaround, I am rather confused.

It's these three steps:
1. Open Menu->Tools->Edit Parameters
2. Navigate to BaseApp/Preferences/Dialog
3. Create a boolean parameter named: DontUseNativeDialog and set its value to true.

Where do you get stuck?

I follow your instruction up Create a boolean parameter. I can't seem to create the parameter.

I just tried to create such entry on a plain vanilla configuration which crashed FreeCAD, can someone please confirm:

- Start FreeCAD
- Open Tools->Edit Parameters
- Select BaseApp->Preferences->Dialog
- Righ-click in the right panel of the window
->Crash

I already had the DontUseNativeDialog set in my config file. That must be why my results were different.

Trying to add the parameter to an empty preference file fails here with:

I saved the templates in a personal folder in my Documents, I did the same with the hatch patterns...
