IMPORT Autodesk Inventor 2019 IPT into FreeCAD 2.0
As suggested.. I've reinstalled FreeCAD
I let it install the Addons
So:
OS: Windows 10 Version 2009
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.20.29177 (Git)
Build type: Release
Branch: releases/FreeCAD-0-20
Hash: 68e337670e227889217652ddac593c93b5e8dc94
Python 3.8.10, Qt 5.15.2, Coin 4.0.1, Vtk 8.2.0, OCC 7.6.2
Locale: English/United States (en_US)
Installed mods:
* A2plus 0.4.56a
* dxf-library
* InventorLoader 1.3.0
* InventorLoader-master
[/code]
As you can see I've got the mods. (I'll guess from Addon installs)
The IPT file was created with Inventor 2019.
I follow the prompts...I've tried options of SAT and native and STEP
In each (preview screen before load) the "image that shows LOOKS like my IPT file
I even get an entry in Model Labels and attributes that has the name of the IPT File.
But...
I cannot see it anywhere on the screen.
IS it there? I don't know. is it not there? I don't know.
I've spun the "cube around" thinking some other axis. Still see nothing.
in "report view I do see th4e following but if it is an error message I have no clue what it means nor how to fix it!
File "C:\Users\gandrews\AppData\Roaming\FreeCAD\Mod\InventorLoader-master\Import_IPT.py", line 249, in create3dModel
importModel(root, doc)
<class 'TypeError'>: importModel() takes 1 positional argument but 2 were given
I've looked for tutorials and found no help. (I' try to write a tutorial if I knew how to do it)
I would really appreciate any help from anyone who can help. (Remember as shown above I'm using Windows 10)
Thanks.
Gordon

Re: IMPORT Autodesk Inventor 2019 IPT into FreeCAD 2.0
InventorLoader-master as an add-on seems suspicious, it may be the result of a bug in a previous version of the Addon Manager. I do not get that entry when I install InventorLoader.
Try moving that folder from (replace "username" with your username):
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\FreeCAD\Mod\
to a location where FreeCAD cannot find it.
Restart FreeCAD and try importing the file again.

BTW: This topic is in the wrong forum. Can someone move it please? Thanks.

Where should it go? Help forum doesn't seem wrong to me.
A Sketcher Lecture with in-depth information is available in English, auf Deutsch, en français, en español.

Thanks. It has already been moved apparently. Old location (Tutorials and videos):

Roy,
I think I tried what you suggested.
At least th3e Report view stated this:
2:27:04 Importing: C:/DATA/2022/March FC Knight project/ONE BLOODY WINDOW KNIGHT.ipt
And the content view showed what is the name of the IPT file under Application/Unnamed with body and origin under that..
BUT...
where the image might br hiding is unknown. I tried clicking on items in Combo view- nothing..
No doubt I'm missing something or some step...
Also it said it was "importing" but never suggested it WAS finished importing... maybe that is not important.
Thanks for you patience and help

I'd posted file earlier see below:

Seems "attachments" rejects .IPT files so
I am attaching with changed name and extension... HOPEFULLY this WORKS<G>
It WAS .ipt
Now it is .txt
Hopefully changing it and changing it back on you end does not break it.

Not sure why you have started a new topic, but anyway:
Not sure why you have started a new topic, but anyway:
- Uninstall InventorLoader and then reinstall it. The Addon Manager complains that SheetMetal is required, but that can be ignored I think.
- Restart FreeCAD.
- Import the file.
- Press the "native" button in the dialog that appears.
- Result: Sketch and Spreadsheet.

Re: IMPORT Autodesk Inventor 2019 IPT into FreeCAD 2.0
Roy,
Followed your steps. Yes, It worked.
I try to figure out things for myself (which seems to get harder as the decades slip by) So I thought what the heck is nativ"? and went to HELP after going through another Add-on session...
I think what I found was/is French. Back in 1958 it was suggested after a year... that my chances of becoming mildly able to read French would be about the same as an asteroid landing at my feet with a winning lottery ticket attached. Thus Latin. <G>
Is there a "good source of documentation "for Dummies"? I'd really like to be more knowledgeable and self-sufficient.
I've now got a thousand and one questions even about THIS import. I'll try to find answers but I suspect I'll be asking a lot more "questions."
Like: this simple drawing imports under constrained (78DOF) and seemingly "line lengths that were "correct and same" in Inventor imported sometimes different. I guess I'll be fighting those as making minor changes might further upset DOF .
So half step forward..
Thanks for your help.
