[solved] ExtractBlock filter in Paraview not showing many items

Post by Will2 »

I'm new to using the CFD workbench and have been learning how to use it with all the time I have at home.

I've gotten a few simulations to work at this point.

My main question is I tried to follow this video on how to compute aerodynamic forces with paraview using this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J944HOj_4b0 When I add the ExtractBlock filter to filter out the wing surface it is not listed under Block Indices. Only internalMesh is listed. I suspect I have to add this data manually in the mesh case but I'm not sure.

A secondary minor question is how to bring back the residuals chart after opening a saved document.

Any help would be appreciated and I hope everyone is doing as well as they can at this point.

Will

When computing forces with paraview I activate the face of interest (the wing)
and use the filters as shown in the picture (in this order).

Filter “GenerateSurfaceNormals”: activate the “Compute Cell Normals” option
Filter “Calculator”: in Attribute mode switch to cell data
Filter "integrate variables": after apply, activate cell results in spreadsheet.

In the calculator-filter you must multiply the pressure result with the fluid-density to get the correct force.
Openfoam calculates a normalized pressure, see definition of dimensions in p-file after case writing.

Bring back the residuals:
I save the residual-plot as a picture-file.
