However, if there is a statically linked package, it would be good to able to use this, instead of FreeCAD having to maintain everything it might use.

Not sure if this is possible if we use python bindings via swig.

With some help from the ifcopenshell author the recipe seems to be ready. The only thing missing now is a release of the current state.
