I am involved in a BIM project where the global project positon is defined as follows.
- two pyramids
- the global coordinates of the pyramids top in swiss global coordinates (LV95) are known.
- the local position of the project is near the local CAD coordinate system origin and turned
- all design partner use the same local position
- working with ifc is like a sharm, because every design office just needs to export the ifc in the local position
- with the two top pyramids known global coordinates it is easy to get the global position too.
- there is one point left
- how to save the global pyramids coordinates in the pyramids objects inside every ifc?
- ATM we use the entity description of the product.
- But a few software programme do not read and write these description (including Allplan)
- An workaround (not smart at all, but works for all software) is to use a string in the object name
- Another possibility would be an object attribute. The question here is, are there any standard IFC attributes to save such global coordinates?
