[Regression ?] - Villa Savoye Model export problems

Postby paullee » Sun Jul 05, 2020 12:26 am

Have been some time since last exported to IFC and found there are regressions :)

FreeCAD_0.19-21329-Linux-Conda_glibc2.12-x86_64.AppImage
on Fedora 31
(Can't test on previous git as current model make all previous FC crash :D )

Model / pevious IFC - Github and User Showcase
  1. [ Architecture Masterpiece ] Villa Savoye FC Model
  2. Model in Github
Previous Findings / Discussion
Previously generally exported fine with some little bugs maybe in FC or other programme in the workflow
  1. Villa Savoye - IFC Missing Window & Opening
  2. [ Bug ? ] Window w/ Louver Do not Export Louvre
Regression Findings
  1. A few walls are not correct, missing etc.
  2. Doors and Window openings missing
  3. Doors and windows out of locations, far away from the building
(even when model exported as BREP)
  4. When exported as BREP, wall seems ok

Found if tick 'Disable IfcRectangleProfileDef', the wall layout and door/window disposition is more or less ok like previous
(with bugs reported previously).

Do not remember if I need to do that in previous export ?

For information, thanks.

This IfcRectangleProfileDef is really hard to make work right... It seemed to me some apps cope with it differently, even IfcOpenShell... Could you isolate one wrong wall? I could try to tackle it further...

There are a few reported problems /bugs, below are 2 reported at BIMserver and some suggestions in exported IFC for reference and hopefully to reconcile :D particularly the one @hlg commented on subtraction of volume.

Are these problems exported with "Force brep" set to True or False?

With False we have seen various export problems, but I do not know of export problems with "force brep" set to True.

Thanks, should have "Force brep" False - as seen in July 2020 post :)

And indeed seems when the above is True, usually no problem, but lost all the extrusion data :D

Exactly, no extrusion at all if set to True. ATM there is noone fixing these ones. I had started to fix one, but there are various ones. Thus there need to be some work to be done to get a robust export with extrusions. I have not the time range for this ATM. Thus I did not continue on this.

But we need to provide a working IFC export, IMHO! Thus what I do ATM is to make sure at least the export with setting to Ture works for all geometry. Thus I am heighly interested if there is wrong exported geometry and "force brep" is set to True.

What we could do is make a new topic which only collects examples for wrong exports with the setting "force brep" to False. But we would need to provide files which only contain a few (best would be only one) object. Than it is easy to repeat the problem.

Excellent, in fact, I had reported several previously :D
