Do i need a driver for my HP T2300 plotter?

Post by tonyaimer »

I am currently running FreeCAD 20 OK

I have not been able to print anything out on my plotter from FreeCAD.

The Linux machine can see the plotter but when trying to plot the plotter says "incorrect format"

I use Linux Mint 20 to run FreeCAD which is attached to my Windows network running 32bit XP.

The plotter is directly attached to one of my windows machines and works fine from AutoCAD.

Do I need to find a special driver or in some way edit my samba file? Which I had to do to get this
Linux machine onto the network so that I could exchange files.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated before I burden my Linux IT guy.

Regards

No, you don't need special drivers for FreeCAD. You didn't say if you're able to print from your Linux machine in general. I assume you've a setup issue regarding your system and FreeCAD has nothing to do with it.

What format does your plotter accept? PDF?

I am not sure what format the plotter accepts.

I can print to my kyocera photocopier OK.

Need to do some more research on these issues but am
not even sure what questions I should be asking at this time.

After 30 seconds on Google I learned that the basic interface is HP-GL, like most of the HP plotters for the past several decades. Some versions (with PS in the model name) also support postscript and PDF.

Drivers were supplied with the original printer. You probably need a driver, as the OS may not directly support HP-GL.

Thanks Gene

This is not a high priority item at present and I can print from Freecad to my Kyocera 3550ci machine
but this limits me to A4 and A3 sizes only. The difference may lie in that the Kyocera machine is linked
directly to the switch and not to any machine in the network.

Maybe I will need to get my IT guy to come have a look. I will report back if and when I find out anything.

Did you say which Linux distribution you're using? I recommend to ask in a suitable Linux forum on how to send print jobs from your Linux system to the plotter. If this works, it'll work using FreeCAD too.
