Postby ProBowlUk » Sun Jun 21, 2015 6:35 am

Hi

Is it possible to use a spaceball 5000 mouse (usb) with the latest release of FreeCAD ?

How would I set it up ?

cheers
Bob

I've got a spaceball 5000 USB attached. It's just working, no need to install drivers or anything (on windows). You can install the 3dconnexion drivers, but have to search for an old driver that still supports your device. It's nice to use it in google earth that way, but FreeCAD works without. In Linux, spacenavd has to be used.

Hi

Plugged in the Spaceball 5000 usb. ... Windows installed it.

Tried to customise it (in FreeCAD) ... had to slow down all the movements, and UN-enable the top (SpaceNavigator) movements.
Could not change any button settings, none were enabled.

Is this correct ?

I've got the following settings active, and buttons are working for me:

Just for reference, my FreeCAD info:
OS: Windows 7
Word size of OS: 64-bit
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.15.4671 (Git)
Branch: releases/FreeCAD-0-15
Hash: 244b3aef360841646cbfe80a1b225c8b39c8380c
Python version: 2.7.8
Qt version: 4.8.6
Coin version: 4.0.0a
OCC version: 6.8.0.oce-0.17

It's been working for a long time independent of FreeCAD version, though.

Ahh ! ... Got buttons !

In the Spaceball - Buttons customise window (when it is empty), just press one of the joystick's buttons and the available settings pop up.

Which buttons/actions do you use ?

thanks for your help

I don't do much with FreeCAD, but at work with CATIA I've got a lot of buttons in use (5 viewing directions plus ISO, fit all, isometric and parallel view). That's on a bigger device, though (http://spacemice.org/index.php?title=SpacePilot). On the Spaceball 5000, currently only "fit all" is used (on button 1).

Just find some action you use often and don't want to keep hunting for with the mouse

Oh, ***.

Button list did come up, but nothing happens when trying to select from the Commands list on the right.
File, Edit, etc., are all greyed out.

Is this a bug ?
Is there a difference between 32- and 64- Windows ?

I don't think so. For me, either selecting a button in the left list with the mouse or pressing said button on the Spaceball will highlight that entry. Once it is highlighted, the list to the right gets activated. See my screenshot from earlier in this thread, it's the same with

OS: Windows 7
Word size: 32-bit
Version: 0.14.3700 (Git)
Branch: releases/FreeCAD-0-14
Hash: 32f5aae0a64333ec8d5d160dbc46e690510c8fe1
Python version: 2.6.2
Qt version: 4.5.2
Coin version: 3.1.0
SoQt version: 1.4.1
OCC version: 6.5.1

Well... one small catch: If there is no command associated with the key, the list to the right remains greyed out, but you can click on the small triangle in front of an entry or double-click the entry (Edit, File, ...) to unfold it.

Thanks again, small triangles were also grey ... so assumed they didn't work.
