What happens when you run it from the command line?
Can you use debugging to give us more info ?

Try to start it from commandline brings only a message that its not a valid command:

Code: Select all

If 'FreeCAD_0.18.15638.glibc2.17-x86_64.AppImage' is not a typo you can use command-not-found to lookup the package that contains it, like this:
    cnf FreeCAD_0.18.15638.glibc2.17-x86_64.AppImage

Code: Select all

chmod +x FreeCAD_0.18.15638.glibc2.17-x86_64.AppImage
./FreeCAD_0.18.15638.glibc2.17-x86_64.AppImage
Then for debugging you would try:

Code: Select all

gdb ./FreeCAD_0.18.15638.glibc2.17-x86_64.AppImage
handle SIG33 noprint nostop
run
(this executes the program)
(when the crash happens then do:)
bt
copy/paste the results back here.

that works:

Code: Select all

Hi @herbk

When you download the AppImage you need to make it executable (chmod or by right clicking on the file -> Properties -> Permissions). Please test again with both AppImages:

https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/rele ... g/0.18_pre

Download, set executable and run. If it won't work run both from the terminal and copy/paste the output here (not using the gdb).

Hi,
here the output when trying to start AppImage with no chance at all:
Yes this is a relatively common problem these days with GPU drivers and newer Linux distributions. DRI3 got enabled by default in Mesa and some GPU drivers unfortunately just can't handle it yet:

https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic. ... 20#p227251

Therefore before starting the AppImage environment variable must be set. For example:

Code: Select all

export LIBGL_DRI3_DISABLE=1
./FreeCAD_0.18.15638.glibc2.17-x86_64.AppImage
P.S. Or as suggested in the linked thread to just disable DRI3 on such system globally or on per user level.

Hi triplus
thank you very much, with your advice the AppImage is starting now and all functions which are not available at present freecad versions are available on the Appimage version. It seems that this version is significant slower, but .. ok, that`s life.
