Status of FreeCAD 0.18 Release

Postby NormandC » Wed Apr 10, 2019 2:30 am

There has been a lot of confusion in the past weeks on whether FreeCAD 0.18 has been released or not. The answer is, yes/no/almost.

The source code for v0.18 was released on March 12, then the work began to prepare the installers and packages for the various operating systems (Windows, macOS and Linux). This release supports both Python2 and Python3, and it's giving the packagers some headaches to make it smoothly working on all platforms. In the meantime, quite a few bugs were found, and a point release 0.18.1 was released on April 4th.

Accordingly, we have postponed announcing the release and updating the website/wiki until all builds are ready. We'll update this topic when everything is settled out. Thank you for your patience!

Current status by platform

Off course not you are at 0.18. if you had pressed the 0.18.1 link than you should go through https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/releases/tag/0.18.1 and find some downloadable files...

As stated here, these installers are named with the wrong hash. I was waiting for a reply before putting the links here.

Also, why was the 0.18 installer deleted from the 0.18 tag?

Edit: I updated the first post with the current links anyway.

I was having a real issue with versions 0.16, 0.17, and 0.18 with importing a SVG image as a geometry. I'm happy to report that the problem is solved in release 0.18.1

Great news! Thank you!
Will there be a portable version "...WIN-x64-portable.7z" ?

You can always use the latest daily: https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/releases/ or install the stable and copy the complete FreeCAD folder.

I am working on the portable versions.

A note however. Beginning with 0.18.x the Win installer allows installation for a single user that does not require admin rights.

The installer also allows to make a desktop shortcut and registers the file association. So it writes some more stuff to the registry. The uninstaller works very well to remove anything that the installer writes.

macOS
A 18.1 binary has been created, please test and report issues. Direct download link: https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/rele ... stable.dmg

the link ends in a 404 github page "page not found" (I just tried now)
