Hi all,

I installed FreeCAD 18,1 form the PPA today but hey presto, I only get basic 4 menus and no workbenches whatsoever.

Hi APF, welcome to the forum.
If you had a previous installation you can try to reset the configuration with the button in the preferences. Another possibility is to delete your config files or to move them in case you want to restore them.

For such questions it is best to add your FreeCAD info as described in the forum guidelines.
Log output is best to be placed in code tags </> it keeps indentation and increases readability. You can edit your post above accordingly.

Hello AFP,

I suggest you rename your ~/.FreeCAD folder so a new empty one is created at launch, it is also possible that an add-on module you had installed is causing this issue.

What version of FreeCAD, if any, had you previously installed? Did you try to install the freecad-doc package as well? I has not been updated to 0.18 at this time, and the older 0.17 freecad-doc package, if still installed, may cause conflicts.

Ok, now I removed the whole ~/.FreeCAD folder and removed all MODs, freecad-doc isn't installed, but I still get only a blank window after starting FreeCAD, i.e. "File" contains nothing but Quit, View nothing but an empty workbench and Help the non-working help and an entry about FreeCAD (see the attachment).

Yes, I did remove the contents of the ../Mod folder. And I removed the settings in ~/.FreeCAD again afterwards just for good measure. And I chmod'ded the whole /usr/lib/freecad/bin structure to 755 just in case something was amiss there (user is still root:root but this shouldn't matter as long as anybody may read and execute the files in there). Still no success.

I have the same problem on Linux Mint 18. Tried to remove all the folders and reinstall but get the same no workbenches installed.

Any ideas?

Your screenshot suggests that you have several additional workbenches installed. You may retry after moving your .FreeCAD folder aside.

Be careful when removing stuff in /usr/lib/freecad/Mod, that folder should be managed by the package so if you remove everything in there you may need to reinstall the package. How did you get stuff in there anyway? That location should be getting managed by the system and not at the user level.
