I can provide the files in 4 or 5 hours.
This is definitely not the approved method. Your problem is probably caused by some program messing when these files when it shouldn't.

I just downloaded the 18.161 release version from freecad.org and got this error at runtime:
api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l 1-1-0.dll

I searched and found this post. I presume I'm headed down the same road with my win7 machine.
I did notice this, an error from 7-zip, see pic.

The install works perfect on my win10 machine.

Wanted to give an update on the missing DLL. The info below is from a win7 machine that is running/installed just fine:
OS: Windows 7
Word size of OS: 64-bit
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.18.16085 (Git)
Build type: Release
Branch: master
Hash: 6323069cbbda5ac71dff073f15cc632d8a1f3ea3
Python version: 2.7.14
Qt version: 4.8.7
Coin version: 4.0.0a
OCC version: 7.2.0
Locale: English/UnitedStates (en_US)

Running win7 with the current 18.xx release gives the DLL error as does the latest pre-release(is it called 19.xLink) Again, both of these run fine on my win10 box and neither will run on win7. I probably wouldn't question it but the win7 box has been downloading and installed FreeCAD prerelease versions for the last year.

I've been trying to update this win7 machine (to sp1) and now I get this error. I'm in a catch22.
File search: windows_uCRT_DetectKeyExists, did not find path: C:\Windows\system32\api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll
So, the install can't find the dll. Because it can't find the dll, it won't install.

I get the feeling that a switch was changed during the builds (to not include some dlls) or Microsoft requires these now for compiling. Every version of FreeCAD has worked up to and including 18.16085. Anything newer than that will get this dll error (on a win7 without service packs). What this means is the current 18.xx release could have this issue.

You know I'm have fun. :(

Hi,
This is annoying, setup a computer specifically for FreeCAD.

downloaded (FreeCAD-0.20.1-WIN-x64) got the same error.
Win 8.1 Pro N (Ver 6.3 build 9600)

Installed the C++ 2015 Redistributable, now there's a different error.
can someone please explain or link the actual requirements for running FreeCAD?
(updates are disabled, if i need some kind of update please tell me which one(s) to download)

what's the error? do you expect us to just guess? Besides that, don't necrobump, this is a 3 year old thread.

Hi Adrian,
Appreciate your prompt response,

i assumed it was a common or related issue but it turned out to be a different issue.

I don't understand why it would be better to create a new thread for the same problem, i don't mind creating a new thread but if it's the same topic that seems to defeat the whole point of using a forum (for continuity /resolution of each topic). i do agree that while the first part of my response was addressing the original error, the second part of my response (asking for more detailed requirements) maybe should ideally have been a new thread/topic.

Turns out it's probably a driver issue, related to this other necro-thread.
