Post by ljoets »

Hello,
I use FreeCAD 0.19 from official Debian Bullseye repo on my laptop and I have an display issue (FreeCAD 0.18 worked great on it).

Here is my Intel Graphic card info :

Code: Select all

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 06)
What could I do/test ?
Thanks
[edit] I juste tested appimage and it's working well :?

this is usually a dpi issue, check your font dpi settings

Thanks for that idea. Would you know how to find these settings in Debian Gnome ?

However :
FreeCAD_0.19.3-Linux-Conda_glibc2.12-x86_64.Appimage is ok
FreeCAD_0.20-1-2022-08-20-conda-Linux-x86_64-py310.AppImage is not ok
FreeCAD_0.20.2-2022-12-27-conda-Linux-x86_64-py310.AppImage is not ok

So I'm not sure that the problem is on the OS.

...no, it is not.
I'm using FreeBSD where FreeCAD is built out of the sources in a so called "port".
Since months now I'm looking for an version that works, and the last 5,6 tries are all building a FreeCAD with this Display Bug.
The Xserver here is an Nvidia blob that's working fine so far, no other programs including Qcad or Kicad have such problems.

This are some lines of output from xdpyinfo:

screen #0:
dimensions: 3840x1200 pixels (1049x321 millimeters)
resolution: 93x95 dots per inch
depths (7): 24, 1, 4, 8, 15, 16, 32
root window id: 0x305
depth of root window: 24 planes
number of colormaps: minimum 1, maximum 1
default colormap: 0x20
default number of colormap cells: 256

What's wrong here regarding a "dpi issue"?

That's a virtual desktop containing two displays. If it where a dpi issue, I would expect distorted display window regarding height/width, but no incomplete icons or Text entries.. so what is the problem here? (please?)

Regards,
Holm

Usually the problems could be related to Mesa library and old Intel architectures, probably before 5th or 6th generation.

I'm using a 2nd generation i3 and on Arch Linux to avoid problems, even with Firefox I've been forced to install a specifically build Mesa Libs for "older architecture".

Hope it helps.

..at least in my case that wouldn't help, I'm using an AMD Ryzen 5 and as far as I know there is no build switch for "older architectures" on my FreeBSD13.1-stable amd64 system. I think I've rebuild mesa several times since I'm aware of this bug.

holm@trollo:~ $ pkg info -a|grep mesa
libosmesa-21.3.8 Off-Screen Mesa implementation of the OpenGL API
mesa-demos-8.4.0_3 OpenGL demos distributed with Mesa
mesa-dri-22.3.5 OpenGL hardware acceleration drivers for DRI2+

Hello
I use realthunder's Appimage for ASM3 and it runs fine.

Code: Select all

OS: Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS (MATE/mate)
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 2023.131.26244 +5365 (Git) AppImage
Build type: Release

Python version: 3.10.8
Qt version: 5.15.4
Coin version: 4.0.1
OCC version: 7.6.3
Locale: German/Germany (de_DE)
The FreeCAD and FreeCAD-Daily Package have the problems as mentioned.

For freeCAD-Daily:

Code: Select all

OS: Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS (MATE/mate)
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.21.

  * CurvedShapes 1.0.4
  * slic3r-tools
  * 3DfindIT 1.2.0
  * Manipulator 1.5.0
  * retr3d
For FreeCAD:

Code: Select all

OS: Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS (MATE/mate)
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.20.1.
Build type: Release
Branch: unknown

Python 3.10.6, Qt 5.15.3, Coin 4.0.0, Vtk 9.1.0, OCC 7.5.1

Installed mods:

  * fasteners 0.4.54
  * workfeature
  * Curves 0.6.6
  * lattice2 1.0.0

  * CurvedShapes 1.0.4
  * slic3r-tools
  * 3DfindIT 1.2.0
  * Manipulator 1.5.0
  * retr3d
So I am in doubt that it should be a Problem with libraries or OS. Are there any other hints to solve this? It would be nice because I like to try the new possibilities in TechDraw (looks very interesting in the wiki).
