Somehow I didn't notice that comment.

Parametric CAD and polygonal modelling are so utterly, wildly different, that if you really believe that, then stop using FreeCAD right there. Because you will likely never get your wish.

I have much respect for Blender (the people who contribute to it and the software) but I am extremely thankful that FreeCAD does not work like Blender, or I could simply not use it. As a proficient CAD user, Blender is too alien for my brain to grasp.

@BlipBertMon: if you update your system and even if you don't: try deleting or temporarily moving away your config files. They live in the directory ~/Library/Preferences/FreeCAD/

Hi @BlipBertMon and welcome.

There i guess is a good and a bad news. The good news is FreeCAD is useful. The bad news is CAD in general is hard and new FreeCAD users do need to go through steep learning curve to start getting results.

Now as for the issue you are having. Some sort of issue with SpaceNavigator is making FreeCAD GUI unaccessible? If that is correct simply unplug SpaceNavigator and restart FreeCAD for now. Try to do some work by using different input device like a mouse and first focus on essentials. Once you get that figured out we can return to less important things from the new user point of view (like making SpaceNavigator work).

Hi Everybody! :D

On Debian stretch what worked for me:

apt-get install spacenavd libspnav-dev
#dirty fix
cp /home/ Your USERNAME/.Xauthority /root/

/usr/bin/spnavd_ctl x11 stop
/usr/bin/spnavd_ctl x11 start

restart FreeCAD --> Right Click tool bar --> Customize --> Spaceballmotion stuffs should be now enabled.

Hi every one,
I am discovering Freecad, which is similar to SolidWorks. Really ggod work.
I have installed spacenav_win32-0.1.exe to be able to use my 3DConnection mouse. Everything is ok into Freecad.
I am also using Sketchup, and noe Sketchup does not operate correctly. The model in Sketchup is always slighly moving.
To be able to better diagnoze the problem, how can I de-install spacenav_win32-0.1?
In Sketchup, since the modelis always slighty rotating into one direction, it makes the menues and sub-menues difficult to click.

My system is the following:
OS: Windows 10

3. sudo /etc/3DxWare/daemon/3dxsrv -d usb (the last command start a setting window and i keep it open, maybe this is the key.)

then I tried to open FreeCAD 0.18 and now the 3D mouse works.

Hello everyone,

I run freeCAD 0.18 as AppImage and as installation from Ubuntu 18.04 "gui - software - centre".

I got the : 046d:c626 Logitech, Inc. 3Dconnexion Space Navigator 3D Mouse

I've follow the installation - manual :
https://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/3Dconne ... devices/de

I allways used the latest software - version :
spnavcfg-0.3
libspnav-0.2.3
spacenavd-0.6

I try without success to make the "cube example" , I got the message : cube.c:15:10: fatal error: GL/glu.h: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden
The simple - example simple_af_unix works, I get messages like
...
got motion event: t(12, -25, -16) r(14, 8, 79)
got motion event: t(12, -25, -16) r(13, 8, 45)
...
in the terminal.

First after the following action
sudo xhost +
sudo /etc/init.d/spacenavd restart
I also get the same messages in the terminal from the simple_x11 - example.

I was making and installing the spacenavd-0.6 - files without any error - messages.

But after installation the 3d-mouse doesn't appear in the freeCAD - settings.

So I followed the following hints also without success:
sudo cp ~/.Xauthority /root/
sudo spnavd_ctl x11 start
sudo systemctl restart spacenavd

The output from command now is : tail -n100 -f /var/log/spnavd.log looks like:

Spacenav daemon 0.6
failed to open config file /etc/spnavrc: No such file or directory. using defaults.

Till now after all this actions I don't get the freeCAD - programm to recognise the 3d-connexion - mouse.

Please give mi a hint how to connect the mouse successful to freeCAD.
How can I probe the curent installation?
Do you need any further infos to evaluate the curent system?

big THX in advance

191218freeCAD-user,

When you go to Tools > Customize > Spaceball Motion, does it say "No Spaceball Present?"

I did notice that in the topic https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?t=34678
JanGer said that he was able to get his spaceball to work by using the daily build of FreeCAD as discussed here:
https://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/Install ... he_console

Perhaps that's something you could try.

Good luck,
Joshua

Hello Joshual,

thank you very much! :P

Till today freeCAD was shown in the menu Tools > Customize > Spaceball Motion : "No Spaceball Present"

I follow your hint and I try the manual and install freeCAD stable per console: https://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/Install ... he_console
...
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:freecad-maintainers/freecad-stable
....

(Until now I have had the freeCAD - Version from Ubuntu - Software - centre or as AppImage.)

Now it works great, the 3Dconnexion - 3D-mouse can be adjusted in the menus and I am verry happy!

Joshual I wish you a nice time
