How much interest is there to integrate LibreOffice into FreeCAD?

Have some feature requests, feedback, cool stuff to share, or want to know where FreeCAD is going? This is the place.

in the blog link, the author talks about Python UNO, but If LibreOffice uses Python 2 and FreeCAD Python 3, How is being solved this issue?

+1 on that!
I would love to have something like this, to facilitate documenting design process inside Freecad file.
At the moment all these info is kept separately and un-connected (not the most desirable situation, but the only one available at the moment).
I am using Link branch and Assembly3
you can also download ... and try it here
excellent Assembly3 tutorials here

Does anyone know if the current Spreadsheet functionality caches its results so that each request is not recalculated whenever some sketch or something else requests a value from a cell?

I know that making caching to work as expected also requires one hefty dependency tree so that stuff gets touched as dirty in case something needs to be recalculated so I understand if that has not been implemented (yet).

Fantastic topic!!
Will be a great integration from OpenOffice to the part or assemble. For example apply Cubic spline equation for search intermediate point desired in the model!

I used it about 10 years ago :)

I use OpenOffice for mail merge on my Christmas card labels as it works :-), nothing but problems trying to use LibreOffice for this function for a number of years :-(.

A different view of the problem:
  • LIbreOffice is a "big dinosaur"
  • FreeCAD is another "big dinosaur"
What is the result of integrating two "big dinosaurs".

More clear.

Integrating LIbreOffice in FC only to have a "better" spreadsheet is a work that could lead to some interesting result, but, you have to follow "FC evolution" and LIbreOffice "evolution", so if you (FC) rely on LibreOffice, you will have to rely on "other crew" decision.

Maybe an "importer" would be a better solution.

I have a LibreOfficce Spreadsheet file and I want to import it in a FC Spreadsheet or other "FC database" to drive some modeling with "external data".

This will be a more easy goal to achieve and way to avoid unexpected crashes or problems, like the adoption of different libraries between the two products. (It is not a corner case, as Python2 to Python3 transition has shown in many opensource projects, in recent past)

Said so LIbreOffice could export in many formats, so maybe finding some intermediate format will be a better approach if directly LIbreOffice format is not manageable.

I think that some parser for LibreOffice files will exist, and as the format id Open, maybe it is not too difficutl to find something ready made around with some Python 3 bindings that will "fit the work".

EDIT: first match seem interesting, as it seems to manage also excel documents:

I would want to create product manuals derived from TechDraw pages. So its not only about spreadsheets.
