I see you are right.I guess you mean isometric not isonometric. And no, the current axonometric view is not an isometric view. You can easily see this when creating a standard box. In this case two corners must be coincident on the screen but they aren't.

Re: Question about axonometric view
Re: Question about axonometric view
Hello,
In my opinion there is now an inconsistent behavior or inconsistent ui design.
In the Views tool bar the fast acces to face view don't point on the right face.
According to this picture When I clic on Set to front view (1),I expected to see the blue face, because the icon show the left face.
Same for Set to the right view...
I don't know if it's a matter of changing the direction of the view or just a matter of rearranging the icon...
Hope I'm clear.

In all these years I have never noticed this before....but you are right! If z-x plane is the front.
Here is just a couple of Pads with an "F" on the front and a Part Cube, if anyone want to visualise this matter.
Re: Question about axonometric view
Hi Jim,
actualy it is not since years there is this behavior. it is coming whith recent change made after mase comments.
I haven't check the file yet. FreeCAD is not available on my smartphone

Oh, right, I see! If you click on axometric view in these two FreeCAD versions, you get the results shown.rockn wrote:Hi Jim,

Re: Question about axonometric view
I agree, the "look" of the buttons must be reworked.Hello,
In my opinion there is now an inconsistent behavior or inconsistent ui design.
In the Views tool bar the fast acces to face view don't point on the right face.
I will try it to do that today. What do I need to do ? fork freecad on github and make the changes ß
Re: Question about axonometric view
No, the look of the icons do not need to be reworked, the code needs to be put back as it was, if it was changed.
Granted I do not know all the CAD software there is, but in everything I've used or tested, this is what an axonometric view looks like:
This is how it works on 0.15.4671, and IMO it should have stayed that way. In all CAD I've used XZ is the front plane by default. This is true in Solid Edge, AutoCAD, and I'm mostly certain Autodesk Inventor. (SW is a different story, for no understandable reason they chose to disregard convention)

Hi NormNormandC wrote: In all CAD I've used XZ is the front plane by default.
Its good to hear from you.
Just to be clear in both cases Front is still XZ its just the camera/eye position that has moved, note the xyz axes icon. I am not sure if that is what you really mean though, because I think you would have spotted that.

Thanks. TBH I'm just passing by, had a quick look at the forum and simply could not let this go by.jmaustpc wrote:Its good to hear from you.

And exactly why was this changed? What was the pressing reason for changing something that was perfectly fine for years?!?
FYI this is a screen shot of a Solid Edge V19 (it's old, but newer versions have the same orientation) after creating a new part document, and placed in isometric view.
As I said, all the CAD software I know of have this same orientation. Only SolidWorks stupidly changed the xyz icons, still, what they call the "front" plane is placed as the XZ plane in my screen capture (it is also labeled "Front (xz)" in the Feature tree).

Because it was wrong for years! And exactly why was this changed? What was the pressing reason for changing something that was perfectly fine for years?!?
The view like it works right know is conform witheuropeen norms.
rocksn is right gui inconsitens. I am reworking the buttons from gui! to fit it. I will take some buttons that looks like the solidworks...
And if you look at your posted image, it says the same as I suggested
