MoI v3 beta: check this out

Post by NormandC »

Hello guys,

MoI (for Moment of Inspiration) is a Windows-only 3D modeling app for designers and artists. It's commercial, but affordable ($200 US) and produces .3DM files (the Rhino openNURBS open format). I believe it can read/write ACIS and STEP, along with mesh formats.

Look at the video on this link to see what the current v3 beta can do: http://moiscript.weebly.com/enrobage-dobjet-v3.html

It's a pity that program is Windows only. I tried running v2 with Wine but most of the GUI was hidden.

From Linux you can get around the Wine problem by installing Windows in a virtual machine. Try Oracle's VirtualBox (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VirtualBox) for an open source solution. Recently MS made System 8 beta available for free download, so, you can try Windows out in VirtualBox at no cost right now. Here's a guy doing it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xy-gz4AYuIQ who supplies enough info to get you started.

Hi,

I already use VirtualBox with a Windows XP VM and a spare license I had. I just don't like the overhead. You need to launch the guest OS first, then launch the app inside it, it takes forever (well, not forever, but I'm the impatient-type :P)

Anyway, the v3 Beta is for registered users only.

My point was that this could be interesting for FreeCAD, eventually. In the video, the user transforms a sphere into an ellipsoid very easily, I know that FreeCAD can do this, but with Python. MoI seems also very "SketchUp-like" in some of its operations.
