are these bugs only, or bugs and features?
Bugs and features together. See the breakdown below

I believe the number of registered reports has been steadily increasing in the past couple of years.
Yes, this is true. I don't have the stats on this though.

I cleaned up a few FEM issues. I realized if I confirm an issue is is assigned to me. IMHO is makes sense to confirm an issue but not assign it to me, because I'm know yes it is an issue, but I will not have the time or knowledge for at least the next year to do this, thus it makes no sense to assign it to me. What do others think?

I assigned the ones to me which I have the aim to fix them during the next few weeks. All other ones I confirmed but did not assign them to me. As soon as this changes I will assign the specific one to me again.

Are you using the Edit button, or the "Change status to:" button? If using Edit, you can change all fields manually so you don't get assigned; I seldom use the "Change status" button, possibly it automatically assigns the issue and does not give the possibility to change it.

Happy to announce that we currently reduced the current tickets in the Bugtracker to 450. This is a milestone. Congrats to all the devs and community members involved.

As indicated below only 140+ are bugs.
