*.stl files open nicely.
*.fcsd and *.step do not, if it is of any help.

I can confirm, that step files do not open.
FreeCAD-files with FCSTD do work.

I wonder if this has anything to do with locals settings. Since Ulrich uses German with a comma as the decimal separator, Bejant and Norm I think both use a decimal point separator locals.

All I get is 100% CPU.

Cheers, /Christoffer
This might be caused by some recent locale specific changes. Depending on locale settings floating point numbers are saved with a comma as decimal separator in the usr.cfg.
With the required fix these numbers are probably saved with a point as decimal separator now. The problem is that the new version cannot interpret the comma separated numbers any more and set them all to 0.0. Especially for the tessellation deviation value this leads to problems because the default of 0.05 is set to 0.0 and thus the meshing takes forever.

To fix this issue start FreeCAD and go to the settings and reset to the default value.Alternatively, just delete the user.cfg file.

Unable to find any "settings" (do you mean edit ->preferences - if so, where is "default"?), so deleted ~/.FreeCAD/user.cfg as suggested.
Still 100% CPU. :?
I am using Swedish locale, but unable to find those settings in FreeCAD. Merely changing language does not seem to change the decimal character.

Hi bejant,

thanks for your effort. I tried your file, but the problem remains unchanged. 0.16 opens it shortly - I can see my drawing for about 0.5 seconds - and then closes the file with an error message. As for 0.17 I get a freeze.

The error message in 0.16 reads literally:
"Traceback (most recent call last): File "", line 1, in : Property not found"

Best regards

I did delete user.cfg and system.cfg. I can now again open step files.

Hello,

I deleted both system.cfd and user.cfd (located in ~/.FreeCAD), restarted 0.16 and tried again - no difference, problem remains.

The file schacht5.fcstd is now a FreeCAD Version 0.17R9822 file. It seems to have properties, not supported in FreeCAD 0.16. I am not an expert, what kind of properties did change, but I do expect, it will not open in 0.16 anymore.
There may be a chance by manually editing the xml-files included in the document, but others have to say, what changes are possible.

I tried another method and started both Versions of FreeCAD in parallel. It was possible to open Schacht5 in FreeCAD version 0.17. I was able to select all features in 0.17 and copy and paste them in 0.16. It gave some error messages, but at last I could save a document. You may test it.

By the way, you seems to work mostly with Draft in FreeCAD. Did you have a look at the Sketcher? This is a much more modern method to construct parts.

No, I use a comma just like in the German language.

This may be related: https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic. ... 37#p158895

I opened a bunch of files I created in 0.17 from last January and December. No problem doing so.
