Re: BOM (Bill Of Materials) function
Here is an old brainstorming idea from me on this topic... Columns A to G are the output (the results the user would get), column I and K show a possible syntax for an generic input. It is in general based on the existing schedule tool from the Arch WB but the idea here was that it should be extremely generic, so to say, it should be possible to get any imaginable data out of the FreeCAD model with it. The examples are more specific to architecture, but with the right input it should work for anyone (since different FreeCAD users can have very different needs here).

Re: BOM (Bill Of Materials) function
G'evening
I totally second pushing the BoM feature to the front !
BTW, something I'm wondering, wouldn't it benefit from a a feature packed spreadsheet app ? If so, shouldn't this effort be joined with those aiming to connect FreeCAD and LibreOffice ?
See here:

Anyway, I'll gratefully welcome any progress on this matter

Re: BOM (Bill Of Materials) function
Attached is my take on the bill of materials.
The assumptions are:
1) Every object is in a group
2) Every Object has a description field (either generated by the input parameters, or assigned to "Black Boxed" objects
See showcase> "pressure vessel with piping" for an overall view.
Attached sample.pdf is how I want to details to look and I think I can make it work in techdraw, which would allow for an internal table.

Re: BOM (Bill Of Materials) function
I forgot to mention, you do want an external data base be it csv, sql or whatever. Parts need to be ordered, checked in when received, checked for quality and so on. FC has enough power to generate all the lists very easily, but everybody does it differently.

Re: BOM (Bill Of Materials) function
Hi, I attempt some FC spreadsheet earlier.
But I find in architectural practice, there is discussion about 'standard modelling'.
I.E.
Architect/ Structural Engineer / M&E or building services engineer do BIM model 'standard' way.
Quantity Surveyor (British tradition only?) then take measurement opening up the model rather than 2d drawings.
