Basically several kinds of threats from big companies. It even happened that some developers were threatened personally of being sued and left development entirely.

Re: I'm going to the GSOC mentors summit!
Can you give an specific example?
When we use methods from scientific articles (lets say in FEM, sheet-metal flatening), could that be a problem?
When implementing new methods in FC (for example rebar-tools, FEM-beams, manipulator) which are sometimes "inspired"
by other companies, could that be a problem too?

Inspiration cannot be patented. If you copy the code or parts of it you can be sued. You cannot be sued for developing your own code. (well you can be sued but not convicted). Think of it as of plagiarism of a book, the borders are not very sharp but sharp enough.

Have you seen any sw or open source project in the world that has stopped to use double click in its routines or GUI?thschrader wrote: ↑Fri Oct 27, 2017 11:59 amfrom link above:easyw-fc wrote: ↑Fri Oct 27, 2017 10:38 am useless patent war

The thing is, you can be threatened to be sued. That doesn't mean you will get effectively sued, or even that such action has any chance to succeed. But what will you do if you receive suddenly a letter that says "If you don't stop immediately developing this thing, we'll sue you for millions of dollars". That's the usual strategy. And, contrarily to what I thought until I talked with Ton and François, it IS used against opens-source software developers.
