How about a highlight reel for 17 release?
Everybody loves eye-candy right?
There's a lot in 0.17 with a compelling visual component, especially in PDN, TechDraw, FEM, and Path but in the other workbenches too.
How about compiling a video of some visual highlights to go along with the 0.17 release. Such a video would certainly get shared widely.
Maybe each workbench could get 20-30 seconds to show off the pretty.

Hey man, wasn't Groundhog day last week?
Edit: sorry, but it's been discussed sooooooo many times on the forum...
The short of it is: if someone does not come forward to take charge of it, it won't get done, plain and simple.

Re: How about a highlight reel for 17 release?
I can volunteer on this matter.
A good starting point for planning would be the release notes https://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/Release_notes_0.17 I think
Here are the headings from the release notes
Highlights
All new Part Design
Part Workbench
Part Design workbench
Sketcher Workbench
Spreadsheet Workbench
Draft Workbench
Drawing Workbench
Arch Workbench
FEM Workbench
Path Workbench
Manipulator Workbench
Curves Workbench
NURBS Workbench
It would be good to start collect FreeCAD-files that uses the new features of different workbenches.
Then I can give it a go putting together a highlight screencast. But a prerequisite would be to have premade FreeCAD-files to use.
Thoughts?

Thanks gntech!
I wouldn't, in any way, try to make the video instructional or a replacement for the release notes or other tutorials. The goal should just be to 'whet the appetite' In other words, all sizzle and not much steak Probably a music background but no voice.A good starting point for planning would be the release notes https://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/Release_notes_0.17 I think
We can break it down even further. I can make a short video (a minute or so) of the Path hightlights. From that you can pick out 20-30 seconds. If we can get similar for the other workbenches, you can integrate them together into a finished product. It would be good to start collect FreeCAD-files that uses the new features of different workbenches.

I'm, of course, open to other suggestions.

Re: How about a highlight reel for 17 release?
Yes, I think that would be the most efficient approach.
Re: How about a highlight reel for 17 release?
So what I need is a simple screencast when demonstrating the juicy bits of each workbench. The length of the screencast does not really matter. 15s -> 5 min; I can edit and pick the best parts.
Technical recommendations
* Linux: Use something like simplescreenrecorder or greenrecorder
* Windows perhaps something from here https://alternativeto.net/software/simp ... rm=windows
* Mac perhaps something from here https://alternativeto.net/software/simp ... atform=mac
* Record in 1920x1080 if you have the possiblity.
* Use https://send.firefox.com/ to send your recorded file to me.
I will then start to make preliminary edits and upload as private youtube videos and share the links in this thread to get your feedback.
@sliptonic: Please go first and make a screencast of the Path workbench so we can test the workflow
@kunda1: Could you perhaps do a simple screencast of the Rebar workbench?

Re: How about a highlight reel for 17 release?
This thread mentions adding a video howto on the wiki. Did this ever get done? My search powers seem ineffective this morning.
Re: How about a highlight reel for 17 release?
We discussed screencasting tools in the Tutorials and videos forum: Community knowledgebase: getting started with tutorial and video contribution
@ wandererfan: that that I know of.
Unfortunately they are not complete, not by a long shot. For example there is no mention of the new stuff in Sketcher, like B-splines.gntech wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2018 1:01 pm A good starting point for planning would be the release notes https://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/Release_notes_0.17 I think

Sorry I can't do 1920x1080. This is the highest I can do on my monitor.
