Request: Thick lines

Post by freecc »

I have created a pattern consisting of lines in a somewhat complicated pattern using the sketcher. Now I want these lines to be 1 cm thick and extrude this thick pattern so I am requesting this feature.

No need for requests: Part offset is your friend.

This method only works if all lines are in the same direction

I don't understand. See the attached file with lines in different directions. One of the offsets was created in Draft, the other in Part. The latter is parametric the former is not.

The one in Part doesn't work. The offset in draft works, but only for simple shapes, I managed to make it work with a square but not my original shape. The offset chooses what to offset, you can see on the colors which is the offset and which is the sketch, green is my sketch, white is the offset.

Would you mind telling us what you want to achieve. We are looking at the details but I don't get the whole picture - which might affect the overall modeling.

The pattern that I created is to be decoration, a pocket in a cement wall, so it needs to have a thickness. The pattern will continue along the whole wall, so there will be more than two circles.

That sounds to me as if you should model only one of the circles and use a pattern afterwards. Part->Offset works here with circles too.

I want the whole pattern thick, not just the circles

is this what you want ?

It´s parametric , size and width are steered by the 2 dimensions at the left ..

Be sure to leave a GAP at the center to finally have concentric closed shapes..
