Freecad 0.18 daily-build and Realthunders topo-naming improvement and assembly3
What about to integrate Realthunders improvement in topological naming and the assembly3 workbench into the Ubuntu daily-build?
Re: Freecad 0.18 daily-build and Realthunders topo-naming improvement and assembly3
IMHO, the daily builds are from FreeCAD master. So the question is "Should realthunder's work be merged into master?"freecad-heini-1 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 18, 2018 6:42 pm What about to integrate Realthunders improvement in topological naming and the assembly3 workbench into the Ubuntu daily-build?
An ancillary issue is SolveSpace's license.

Yes, that is the question. Sorry for my lala English.sgrogan wrote: ↑Wed Apr 18, 2018 8:13 pmIMHO, the daily builds are from FreeCAD master. Re: Freecad 0.18 daily-build and Realthunders topo-naming improvement and assembly3
ask if they would change other licence...
I do not know what licence would be accapteble...

Re: Freecad 0.18 daily-build and Realthunders topo-naming improvement and assembly3
if Solver Space license is a problem, why is Realthunder wasting his time with it?
Re: Freecad 0.18 daily-build and Realthunders topo-naming improvement and assembly3
It is not completly waste of time... FreeCAD build up experience on multiple levels on assembly structre and topological naming. it is just hoping some stuff wil become in master at some (hopefully short) point
Re: Freecad 0.18 daily-build and Realthunders topo-naming improvement and assembly3
I guess if the changes to the core of FreeCad doesn't involve SolverSpace libraries, then Assembly 3 could be released separately under GPL.
Re: Freecad 0.18 daily-build and Realthunders topo-naming improvement and assembly3
this thread is a really important discussion.
Which CAD-System could exist for a longer time without a functional assembly-module ?
Real systems usually consists of many many parts.
Assembly is urgently needed.
RealThunder has done a lot of work attributing this topic.
He takes the problem a the right points:
- TopoNaming:
Assembly2 is wasting a lot of computation time to reconstruct constraints after changing components of the assembly and often fails...
TopoNaming is absolutely necessary.
-Linking to external parts, great...
-Solver of assembly2:
it sometime works, sometimes not. It seems not to be perfect. Solvespace is fast, but we have the license-problem.
Therefore i agree with mfasano.
Moving the toponaming and other important parts to FreeCAD's masterbranch would be great.
Perhaps it is really possible to release Assembly3 under GPL. But FreeCAD-master has to define the basis.
RealThunder self speaks from a solver-backend which could independently replaced. Is that true ?
Perhaps another solver or an improved one from assembly2 can be used ?

I think assembly is something mechanical i never have seen in other branches...
