Highly likely some of the available options will work. But it could happen not all settings will work. For that detecting support on specific hardware would be needed and AFAIK it would be hard to implement cross-platform solution doing that reliably. Therefore if any of the available options is working that i guess is that. If none of the available options would work. That likely would be a bit strange. And hardware drivers related. Another things that could be happening is FreeCAD crashes on close and setting isn't being used after FreeCAD starts again. To check that just look in the Preferences if the setting is still applied after FreeCAD restart or not.
