FreeCAD copyright

Post by hopeman »

Hi there,

I just found a German company making advertising for FreeCAD.
Following this link, they name their product "BobCAD-FreeCAD".
I don't know if the FreeCAD name is protected by some rules.
I can't believe, they do not know our FreeCAD ;-)

Hi hopeman, welcome and thanks for pointing this out.

I have split the topic and created a new one.
A Sketcher Lecture with in-depth information is available in English, auf Deutsch, en français, en español.

I can't help but wonder if they do know, and would like to see our FreeCAD undergo a name change...

I get the impression that they are a reseller for Bob-CAD, and they have bundled FreeCAD to make a package. It is not clear if they are simply using a release version or if they have made some modifications. In either case I believe it would be allowed by the standard FC license conditions.
