Feature Request: Substractive Revolution.

Besides that, is there any benefit of having two identical pads based on the same sketch?

Just downloaded last version of Freecad 0.19, and the "microbug" is fixed there.
(On an a previous version of FC 0.19 the commented behavior is observed)

BTW, the two identical pads were a mistake.
