are the instructions for installation on FreeCAD on the BOLTS website correct ?

Yes and No. One could still make it this way. The better way is to use the FreeCAD AddOn manager. If one goes to the download page it says go to github releases. If one goes to github releases it says go to BOLTSFC repository. There in readme it says use AddOn Manager.

lets have one easy cohesive way to do it for FreeCAD, just to limit confusion. What do you recommend ?

FreeCAD AddOn manager.

The problem is more changing the website. It is on my to do to be able to change the website and upload this. This has been done by the old maintainer so far. But I was really busy to fix osm import in trails wb last days.

But is created by python as a BOLTS backend with the help of https://pythonhosted.org/Frozen-Flask/ See https://github.com/boltsparts/BOLTS/issues/177
